The treatment camp started on 4 November 2009.
Summary
In total, 44 patients in total were screened by doctors.
Of these, 41 were operated on : 30 VVF patients (Vesco-Vaginal Fistula) and, 11 RVF patients (Recto-Vaginal Fistula).
In addition, almost all the patients received psychological support from nurses who had been trained in provided this care.
Patient Monitoring (as of December 5)
40 patients who had received treatment returned to the hospital one month later for follow-up.
38 of the patients who returned, had their catheters removed and were assessed to have been fully cured following the fistula surgery.
2 of the patients were still experiencing mild urinary incontinence, these patients were given new catheters and further instructions on the exercises that they need to continue to do in order to be fully healed.
2 women were accompanied back to in their villages for assistance with social reintegration into their communities, one woman of 65 years (from Kérigori village near Kisii), and a teenager aged of 17 of age (from Kalando village in Oyugis District).
