Ethiopia: Inauguration of the new fistula treatment ward at Gondar University Hospital

On Saturday 30th of July, Waha and the University of Gondar will inaugurate the new fistula treatment ward and international fistula surgery training centre.

This new 70-bed treatment centre aims to help increase fistula care services for women, treating at least 100 patients per month. The ward will also be an international training centre on fistula management for surgeons from Ethiopia and around the world. Training will be based on the new training manual on fistula care recently published by FIGO.

Inauguration Gondar University Hospital

At least 26,000 women in Ethiopia are in need of obstetric fistula repair surgery. The partnership between Waha and Gondar Hospital aims to integrate fistula care and training on fistula management into both the hospital services and the curriculum of postgraduate medical students.

This project has been jointly financed by Fistula Foundation, the UNFPA and Waha International.
