The training session was on the identification and the referral of obstetric fistula patients. In order to increase access to treatment, it is essential that rural health workers are aware of obstetric fistula, know how to identify patients and where to refer them to. The training was fully sponsored by the international organization Pathfinder International through its Integrated Family Health Program (IFHP).
Trainings will be organized throughout the year to include nurses from other rural zones surrounding Assela. Fifty-four patients with obstetric fistula were operated on in the Assela School of Health since the project inauguration in July 2010.
