At one time, as we chatted along over a cup of tea, and others making telephone calls back home, there was sudden sporadic gunfire. We spontaneously ducked, not knowing what was going to happen next. Luckily, it died off, without us identifying the source. Of late, we are getting used to the gun shots, but hope they will not escalate to bomb explosions!
Another time, a few blocks away from us, a loud explosion sent people scampering for safety. When things had settled down, we found out that over 130 people had died from what turned out to be a suicide bombing, targeting a government office, the Ministry of education. Most of the victims were students applying for scholarship in Turkey.
